Smart Perform Insight Helps Boost Perdido Crude Export

Crude Cooler pressure drop (dP) increased significantly due to heat exchanger (HX) fouling; this resulted in LACT Pump NPSH loss. Hence, Perdido Crude Export rate was in forced decline to maintain flow and prevent tripping the Platform. Gaps in instrumentation prevented clear judgement on which one to change out. There was only one spare HX; so, picking the one with largest impact was important.Initial judgement by facilities engineer was that HX B was the primary constraint. But from Smart Perform Analysis, P&T specialists were convinced that HX A was most likely the larger flow constraint. P&T worked with Perdido staff to use a hand-held flow meter to verify that changing out HX A would indeed deliver the larger impact. Based on P&T’s advice, Perdido changed out HX A; the LACT Pump NPSH limit was immediately resolved. Perdido Process Engineer estimated an 18,000 BOPD capacity gain from the HX change out. ~10-15 MM USD production benefit was realized in 2 months since HX change.
