Shell Polymer Monaca- Logistic (PI to GSAP and PI to Bourque interfaces)
SITUATION / Business REQUIREMENT / CHALLENGE
- Shell Polymers Monaca (SPM) is a Gas to Chemicals manufacturing facility that will purchase stranded Ethane and Natural Gas from the grid and upgrade Ethane to Polyethylene.
- Each Polyethylene production unit will be fitted with independent product conveying system to transfer ‘finished product’ to loading areas for transportation via road & rail.
- Complex processes of manufacturing, storage, loading & transport of finished materials requires consumption and creation of critical real-time operational (raw) along & calculated data.
- Interfaces are designed to enable the transport and consumption of raw and calculated data for liquid and solid ‘finished products’ across internal Shell systems and processes plus to external parties and stakeholders
OUR STRATEGY
- E2E solution built upon custom PI-AF hierarchy-based approach. Modeling of SPM equipment (Tanks & Truck/Rail Silos) in Pi AF. Process of data workflow enabled using Pi Event frames, Pi Notification & Biztalk exposed APIs.
- Established 7 new interfaces for SPM enabling transport of Pi data to GSAP and externally to Third-party (Bourque Logistics)
- Automated the process to transport Rail/Truck silo data to Shell & external parties triggered by specific manufacturing process (e.g. Silo filling – fill set point reached) event(filling/transferring)
RESULTS DELIVERED
- 7 new interfaces between PI and GSAP/Bourque using market standard technologies like Pi Suits of products, Biztalk as Integration tool and Chemical GSAP
- Additional interface to transport product quantity (Tank Stock) data to Shell systems on Daily/Monthly basis per SPM defined schedules
- Automated process to trigger data between Pi and Biztalk
Key achievement – Triggering/Integration of data from PI to Biztalk on event base

Business Feedback: All the UAT result so far was satisfactory and now in Production verification stage
