SITUATION / Business REQUIREMENT / CHALLENGE

  • CMIS(Cost Management Information System ): The objective of this POC is to provides the dashboard/Power Bi reports to user for forecasting Budget & Cost for "Actual" and "Estimated Cost at Completion“ for ongoing Capital Projects. This feature will enable users to forecast the cost/budget for 3- 6 months based on past/historical data(12,18,24 months). This has been developed using Power BI M-Query, Python Scripting for Forecasting and Azure Automated ML
  • Pro Act(Forecasting): To get Delta between Actual & Previous month Forecast data(Forecast of Previous Month, Actual of Current Month).This has been developed using Power BI M-Query. Forecasting of future values was done though ARIMA Lag Method and Inbuilt functionality of Power BI ARIMA Model. Line chat has been used for visualization of Current and Forecasted value.
  • Pro Act(PDI): To improve the data refresh time for Power Bi reports as well as data sync latency to Power BI using Direct Query and Databricks. This will help in Efficiency in time reduction of data latency of 30 min to target Power BI report.


RESULTS DELIVERED

  • All the 3 PoCs are delivered successfully to Cost Engineering team
  • During these PoCs we have explored several ways and different technologies to provide the Power BI based solution for Forecasting which is compatible with Power BI and approved within Shell.
