What is VSM(Value Stream Mapping)?VSM is a workplace efficiency tool designed to combine material processing steps with information flow, along with other important related data. VSM is an essential lean tool for an organization wanting to plan, implement, and improve while on its lean journey.
Why VSM in EC?As part of EC delivery, around 200 plus changes are delivered in every quarter for 23 assets in upstream. The entire lifecycle of each business change request from creation till completion is captured along with the time stamp in Azure DevOps tool - VSTS.
How VSM in EC?Initially the data from VSTS was being copied manually into an excel to calculate the KPIs. With all the data available in VSTS, a Power Bi dashboard was designed to automatically pull the data from VSTS and visualize VSM, a snapshot copied below of the same
By this the team is able to surveil the changes meticulously with lesser efforts and greater scalability which helped to identify some of the improvements with respect to waiting time and backlogging, thus helping in fine tuning the process and making it more efficient. EC-CC team as of now is focusing on optimizing the cycle time with VSM in the areas mentioned below
➤ Production verification sign off is a bottleneck where we take more time to move a change from Resolved to Done state which indirectly impacts the average cycle time. We are working alongside with business to have the time reduced for PV sign off from a month to a week or two.
➤ SAP BO changes - The findings were the constant change in the requirements and non availability of business tester for UAT.
➤Messaging (Java) changes - Dependency with third party(Biztalk), complexity of the changes and capability(Java and EC)
