The Shell PI Collector extracts data from the OSI PI data historian, using standard PI SDK functions. It is a custom standalone program, which can be run manually from DOS prompt, windows scheduler or a windows command file. The data points are extracted from Pl based on the FC lag mapping definitions and templates and the extracted data is stored in the relevant EC classes

ECIS PI Shell PI Collector has been used as customized alternative for product's ECIS PI as the later had got fow downsides like the timing model which was difficult to control given the different time zones in EC instances, it was not efficient with extracting only one value per day and it was not possible to re-run a selected group of tags. EC team collaborated with the Vendor i.e., QUORUM to incorporate the features of Shell Pi Collector in the later versions of FC product making FCIS PI functionally equivalent to Shell PI Collector. Now with the upgradation of EC to higher versions EC-12 and EC-13, it favored the implementation of updated ECIS PI thus eliminating the customization.
